The international situation of waste plastic recycling
In the near term, in order to solve the current embarrassment of the waste plastics industry, foresighted countries and institutions have already taken action and have begun to pledge to reduce plastic waste.
On June 29, 2019, at the G20 meeting in Osaka, Japan, the member states endorsed the "Blue Ocean Vision" plan, with 2050 as the goal, and will strive to reduce marine plastic waste to zero.
The real situation is that plastic waste is becoming a huge threat to mankind.
According to data from Plastics Europe, the global production of plastics in 1950 was 2 million tons, and data from the World Bank's "Global Solid Waste Management in 2050" data show that an average of 0.74 kg of garbage is produced per person per day.
According to reports, at least 9 million tons of plastic waste flows into the ocean every year, causing serious impacts on marine life and the global environment.
The members of the European Plastics Manufacturers Association have pledged to ensure high plastic reuse and recycling rates.
The main goal is: by 2030, 60% of all plastic packaging in the EU will be reused and recycled, and by 2040, 100% of all plastic packaging will be reused, recycled or recycled. The primary goal of the project is to prevent plastic from leaking into the environment in order to improve resource efficiency and the recycling rate of plastic packaging.
Constant said, “We have the opportunity to create a new business model and bring the true value of plastics to society. At present, the plastics industry is actually wasting value because it does not make full use of the plastic recycling and recycling value chain.”
The EU plastic waste collection rate is less than 30%, and the one-time use of plastic products causes huge losses, about 70 billion to 105 billion euros per year. In this regard, the European Commission has set a goal that by 2030, all plastic packaging on the EU market must be recyclable and reusable.
By 2025, about 25% of PET bottles must be recycled. By 2030, the recycling rate will reach 30%. The EU is the first region to implement mandatory recycling of plastic packaging, hoping to establish a well-functioning EU recycled plastics market.
